Internship description:
The Winston-Salem Dash, the Carolina League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, is seeking an intern interested in a career in photojournalism.
The intern will be responsible for photographing game action, on-field entertainment acts, fan & mascot interaction, assorted events held at the ballpark and other activities on or outside of game days as assigned by the team’s sponsor services, ticketing and media relations departments. The intern may also be asked to work off a nightly shot list in order to obtain photographs of specific areas of the ballpark, signage or sponsor promotions.
A functional knowledge of baseball is required of all candidates interested in the position. The intern must also provide his or her own photography equipment capable of securing high-resolution images.
Qualified candidates will receive compensation for events held during the offseason or outside of normal game days/hours, but will not receive a regular stipend. The photography internship may also be taken for course credit depending on the parameters set forth by the respective student’s college or university.
Specific starting and finishing dates can be negotiated between the team and the candidate, though the bulk of the internship is structured around the Carolina League season, which runs from the second week of April through mid-September. Though the intern will not have a regular schedule during the offseason months, the team expects to host a handful of events leading up to the opening of its new downtown ballpark that will require the photographer to be present.
During the season, hours will vary from week to week in accordance with the team’s home schedule and can be flexible to work around the candidate’s schedule and availability. Qualified candidates should expect to work an average of 10-20 hours each week in-season.
