Sales & Marketing: Sponsorship Services/Activation
Sponsor Services Account Representative (Internship) - Staten Island Yankees (Staten Island, NY)

If you want to be a sports business version of a utility infielder, you shouldn’t waste your time reading the rest of this job description.

To become a superstar with teams, you need to first know that it all starts with tickets and corporate partnerships. Tickets and corporate partnerships are the lifeblood of sports teams. Once you learn truly learn how to market tickets and corporate partnerships--then it’s on to making sure these accounts renew year after year, this is what we call Sponsorship Services. Learn these, and you’ve got the right ticket to run teams.

So, we start our people on our lifeblood—remember, that’s revenue from partnerships. We don’t give you a stale customer service manual and tell you to go service our clients. Our philosophy is train, train, train, and when we get tired of that, we train some more. Our goal is to accelerate your growth as fast as we can. You see, we want you to get better quicker for what you can contribute in Staten Island and perhaps with our other teams.

We own six minor league teams. We’re planning on buying more. We would like to populate management positions in those teams with people that have learned our marketing methods. We’ll train you, we’ll encourage you to become successful, and then we’ll look for you to do the same with recruits at our other teams.

A SUPERSTAR STARTS IN STATEN ISLAND
The Staten Island Yankees are the Single-A New York-Penn League Affiliate of the New York Yankees. The Yankees are owned by Mandalay Baseball Properties (owner of seven minor league baseball teams) and the New York Yankees.

We’re located just 3 miles from Manhattan, playing in Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

WHO IS MANDALAY?
Mandalay does two things: we make movies and we run Minor League Baseball teams.

The six teams that we own are:
•Dayton Dragons – Class-A Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds •Frisco RoughRiders – Class-AA Affiliate of the Texas Rangers •Erie SeaWolves – Class-AA Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers •Hagerstown Suns – Class-A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals •Staten Island Yankees – Class-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees •Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees – Class-AAA Affiliate of the New York Yankees

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Corporate partners are an integral part of our organization. We are all about servicing. We service, service, service and when we are tired of servicing we service some more. Remember it’s all about corporate partners. You’d be a full-time servicer coordinating various aspects of the corporate partner’s contractual and non-contractual needs and wants. You will be interacting with the major players making their partnership work for them over and above their wildest dreams. The position will be servicing our 35 corporate partners by developing relationships, listening, following through on elements of contracts and having fun. We don’t have 250-350 corporate partners like a lot of Major and Minor League teams. We only have 35. These 35 partners are treated with kid gloves and are your major responsibility. We don’t expect that you’ll know how to service or sell our different corporate partnerships, so we provide extensive training.

QUALIFICATIONS
Do you want to be a superstar in sports business? That’s the first qualification. If you answered yes, then answer two more questions: 1) do you have a strong work ethic and 2) do you have desire to learn and excel?

You should have strong communication skills (you have to like to talk to people) and a willingness to listen and learn. You also need excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and execute various tasks flawlessly. Knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop are recommended. If you don’t have service or sales experience, don’t worry about it because we don’t worry about it.

OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH
You may be asking yourself what are the chances that this can turn into a full time position? This is a good question to ask. If you are a true superstar, your chances of staying on with our team are high. The pressure is on you to listen, learn, grow, excel, execute and show us that we just can’t operate the Sponsorship Services Department without you. You have 9 months to wow us.

START DATE
January 11, 2009. Although we don’t always have an opening, we have one right now. And, even when we’ve got no openings we’re always looking for those that want to be superstars. So, if you’re ready to become a superstar right now, email us your resume today. If you want to wait to become a superstar, then email us your resume when you’re ready.

Question 1:
True/False: I am detail oriented

Question 2:
True/False: I have a creative mind and like working with business clients

Question 3:
True/False: I have a desire to develop a career in sports

Sales & Marketing: Ticket Sales
Seasonal Sales Rep - Staten Island Yankees (Staten Island, NY)

You probably want to be the president of a team someday. That's good; you're on the right site.
If you don't, you shouldn't waste your time reading the rest of this job description.
THREE OUT OF FOUR DOESN’T WORK
We figure that you don't have the skill set to be a president right now. However, if president is your target, you need to answer 'yes' to each one of the three questions listed at the very bottom of this posting.

If you say 'yes' to the first three questions, you're on the right track. However, to get a 'yes' on the fourth question, you are going to have to do some homework. Talk to teams about the real training that they give. Tossing you the Yellow Pages doesn't count as training.
We feel that to become a president with teams, you need to first know what we know: It all starts with tickets. Tickets are the lifeblood of sports. Once you learn tickets—truly learn how to sell and market tickets—you’re on your way to running a team.
We start our people on our lifeblood—remember, that’s tickets. No Yellow Pages tossing for us. Our philosophy is train, train, train, and when we get tired of that, we train some more. Our goal is to accelerate your growth as fast as you will allow us to. You see, we want you to get better quicker for what you can contribute in Staten Island and perhaps with our other teams.
WHAT’S YOUR PATH?
We own seven minor league baseball teams. All are affiliated with Major League teams. We’re planning on buying more. We would like to populate management positions in those teams with people that have learned our ticket marketing methods. We’ll train you, we’ll encourage you to become successful, and then we’ll look for you to do the same with recruits at our other teams.
If you come to work for Mandalay in tickets and do well, you’ll have a chance to grow within our organization, much faster than you would anywhere else. Do well and you could be managing your own staff within a few years.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Tickets, remember, its tickets. You’d be a salesperson making sales calls to groups within different categories selling our different group products including seats in the stands and hospitality. We don’t expect that you’ll know how to sell our different ticket packages, so we provide extensive training. We’ll teach you how to make the initial call and how to help select the best ticket package for that particular prospect. We’ll also allow you to explore other areas of the organization with some operational and administrative tasks, but about 90% of your time will be spent selling group tickets.
You’ll be working ticket sales in minor league. This means long hours during the work week and being available for all necessary events.
WHO DOES THE TRAINING?
Training is done in house. We’ll start you off with a week long boot camp giving you all the information you need to be successful. Don’t worry—we’re not going to just hand you a “how to sell tickets” manual and expect you to study it. The training is interactive so you’re learning and applying at the same time. We have a trained staff on hand, plus you’ll get the chance to meet some of the Mandalay executives that have been a success in the sports industry for years. After boot camp, you’ll have a pool of high level executives such as our team’s general manager, president and vice president of ticket sales, in addition to a staff of experienced sales reps to learn from.
